Public restrooms are often perceived as unhygienic, a concern validated by studies showing high bacterial counts and significant cross-contamination risks. This widespread aversion leads to user discomfort and avoidance, while existing solutions fall short: disposable covers are inconvenient and wasteful, and current automated systems are often slow, energy-inefficient, and mechanically complex. This project was motivated by the need to create a truly comprehensive "no-touch" experience that addresses both hygiene and usability. We have developed a fully automated toilet system that not only opens the lid and deploys a biodegradable seat cover but does so in under six seconds while consuming 51% less energy than existing models. By integrating speed, eco-friendly materials, and user-centric design, our goal is to eliminate the primary points of physical contact and psychological discomfort, thereby setting a new, higher standard for public sanitation and restoring user confidence in shared facilities.
